Lincoln Electric Ferroweld ESt Stick Electrode

Lincoln Electric's Ferroweld is a highly reliable and cost-effective shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) stick electrode designed exclusively for cast iron repair. Unlike expensive high-nickel electrodes, Ferroweld features a mild steel core wrapped in a heavy, specialized flux coating. When melted, the steel core pulls massive amounts of carbon from the cast iron base material, producing a highly durable, non-machinable weld deposit. Because of its forgiving arc and ability to bond with less-than-perfect surfaces, it is the go-to choice for repairing antique engine blocks, sealing exhaust manifolds, and fixing heavy industrial castings where post-weld machining is not required.

Features

  • Forgiving on Dirty Metal: The heavy flux coating is highly tolerant of contaminated, oil-soaked, or rusted cast iron that cannot be perfectly cleaned prior to welding.
  • Excellent Visual Match: Because the deposit is primarily steel, the repaired area will rust and weather at the exact same rate as the surrounding cast iron, which is ideal for restoring antique or cosmetic parts.
  • Low Heat Input: Formulated to run smoothly at lower amperages (typically 70–120 A for a 1/8" rod), which helps minimize thermal shock and prevents further cracking in brittle cast-iron parts.
  • Versatile Current: Can be operated on either DC+ (Direct Current) or AC (Alternating Current) depending on the machine setup and repair needs.

Typical Applications

  •  Repairing pits and small cracks in castings
